West Virginia Penalized For Late Hit On Alabama Quarterback Blake Sims Was Questionable

A potential changing point in the West Virginia-Alabama game came when officials called an unsportsmanlike penalty on West Virginia was called for a late hit penalty after Blake Sims went rushing into the West Virginia sidelines.

The replay would appear to show a West Virginia player was trying to protect himself as Sims came crashing through the sidelines and into where the player was standing. Officials threw a flag which turned a fourth down situation in a first down for Alabama. Eventually the Crimson Tide would turn the possession into three points to extend Alabama’s lead to 10. If ‘Bama wins this game by three points or less there’s going to be a lot of focus on this call and whether or not is should have been made.
