It’s finally here. The 2014 National Championship Game between the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Since this is the last College Football game until the end of August, the Blitz has decided to go full on Blitz on itself, giving you not only Spread and Totals advice for this game, but also a quick Brass Tacks on the props that are fun to throw money at for the game. Let’s set the table for the 2014 National Championship game and get right to it.
What: 2014 National Championship Game
Who: Oregon Ducks vs Ohio State Buckeyes
Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington Texas
When: 8:30pm ET, ESPN, Monday January 12th
The Line: Oregon (-7) Over and Under: 74
The betting line just dares you to take Oregon on this one. If you watched any of the Rose Bowl, you know that the Ducks benefitted from some Seminole turnovers in that 3rd quarter, sending the game into a free fall. At the half the score was 18-13, then like a fine race horse, the Ducks just took over that game. Here’s a stat for you: Against Top 25 opponents this year the Oregon Ducks have a 26.5 winning margin. The Ducks were favored (-6.5) over Florida State and destroyed that cover. Can they do it again against a Big Ten opponent in Ohio State? Look no further than the Oregon Michigan State game back in the 2nd week to grab some quick analysis on how the Ducks can handle the Big Ten. The Spartans were up at the half but were outscored by Oregon 28-3 in the 2nd half. If Ohio State can shut down Oregon, limit what they can do on offense by winning one on one battles in the secondary and getting Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota to make turnovers, the Buckeyes can and will keep it close.
Ohio State has had 11 days to prepare but everyone saw the ineptness of the Alabama offense in what they should’ve done, but didn’t. Even so, the Crimson Tide did put up 35 points against the Buckeye defense, but held when they had to, ‘allowing’ only 21 points after the 1st quarter. The keys to this spread total will be the turnover battle. Who will have sustaining drives that result in points? Who will turn the ball over in the Red Zone?

At 74 for the Over Under total, it seems high, with Vegas Oddsmakers saying that defense will not be a factor, but the Blitz thinks that both defenses will have some wrinkles that will keep the point total UNDER that number, with 1st Quarter jitters in a championship game making it hard to score 1st.
The Brass Tacks
It’ll be the first team to 40 in this game, with Oregon having the offensive weapons to get there. At -7 for the spread, if Oregon wins, they should do so by at least 14 points. Final score: Oregon 42-Ohio State 24.
The Pick: Take Oregon -7, Under 74 for the game
Okay now that we have that out of the way, as a goodbye present, we’ll give you some Prop Bet action for the game.
