There are lots of questions about this year’s Louisville Cardinals football team, but here are five things we learned from their spring game Friday.

Bobby Petrino clearly has lots of open competitions still happening before he puts together his depth chart, and that was on display Friday night during the Louisville Cardinals spring game.

The Red team tore apart the White team 59-0 in that game, but there were instances where Petrino mixed guys in on both sides.

The most obvious case was quarterback Kyle Bolin, who went 3 of 7 with the White team but an impressive 8 of 11 with the Red team for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Junior college transfer Jeremy Smith at running back also saw action on both sides, and with the Red team he also put up decent stats, carrying the ball 10 times for 58 yards and a touchdown.

But ironically, Bolin nor Smith were the stars at their positions in this spring game. More on that later.

What is clear after Friday is that Petrino has a lot of work to do in the Fall as the Cardinals rebuild, and he is right to not want to rush to name any starters at crucial positions yet.

The spring game gave us a pretty good idea of where he might be going, though. Here are the five things we learned from Louisville’s Red-White Spring Game.
