The Oklahoma Sooners left Bedlam with a Big 12 Championship and a likely playoff spot after blowing out rival Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma shined away from home against their bitter rival Oklahoma State. A top-10 matchup, this game had a lot riding on it, especially for the Sooners who could clinch a playoff berth with the win on top of the Big 12 title.

The Cowboys were without starting quarterback Mason Rudolph so J.W. Walsh started in his place as the Sooners once again played a tough opponent without their starting quarterback after beating Baylor, TCU with their backups.

A healthy Rudolph likely wouldn’t have mattered on a night when Baker Mayfield, Samaje Perine and the Oklahoma offense was nearly perfect en route to scoring 58 points to pick up the win.

The running game was nearly impeccable, Perine ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries and backup Joe Mixon added 136 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Mayfield threw for 180 yards and a pair of scores also exploited the Pokes rush defense with 77 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts.

Oklahoma State has played great defense all year but they had no answer for Oklahoma’s running game.

When they weren’t running it, the Sooners found success throwing the ball, especially to Sterling Shepard who had 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma State struggled to get things going on the ground and lost the turnover battle, which sealed the deal in the end. Walsh led the team in passing and rushing with 325 yards through the air and 50 more on the ground. His favorite target was wide receiver James Washington who finished with 169 yards and a touchdown.

But they just didn’t have enough help on the other side of the ball as the Sooners won Bedlam to knock off their rivals and win the Big 12 and in all likelihood clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff in the process on their rivals field.

That’s gotta feel good for head coach Bob Stoops who may be the Coach of the Year.
