Bobby Petrino landed a big recruit with the commitment from four-star linebacker P.J. Blue.

The Louisville Cardinals landed a commitment from 2016 four-star outside linebacker P.J. Blue (Park Crossing, Montgomery, AL.). Blue is the No. 316 player in his class, the No. 23 outside linebacker, and the No. 7 player in the state of Alabama per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He tallied nine offers in total including one from within the ACC as Clemson was the only other team in the conference to extend an offer. The SEC was heavily interested in him as Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and Tennessee all extended offers.

Originally a South Carolina commit, Blue made his pledge on July 25, before decommitting on October 12.Prior to his commitment to the Gamecocks, he had taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Auburn, and attended a Tennessee Volunteers camp.

With this commitment, the Cardinals have a strong 2016 recruiting class. In total, the class holds 22 commitments including two four-star commitments. Blue joins quarterback Jawon Pass (Columbus, GA. Carver) in that distinction per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Blue is a tremendous coverage linebacker who can also provide the big hit when necessary. He should be an asset in defending the pass especially against teams like Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina, who are known for making explosive plays and getting big gains. His playing style should help eliminate the big plays”and provide a security blanket of sorts in the secondary.

This was a huge get for Louisville and Blue’s versatility should help him thrive in the Cardinals’ defensive system.
