While reviewing Friday night highlights, Lee Corso seemed to insinuate that College GameDay will be headed to Louisville next week.

Every Saturday morning, ESPN’s College GameDay broadcasts to millions of homes as people across the country prepare for another full day of college football action. There are celebrities on each week to select winners from among the top games, fans compete to come up with the most clever signs to wave behind the studio desk, and the production generally serves as a traveling tailgate for the country to wake up to each weekend.

Part of the show’s popularity stems from the fact that it broadcasts each week from a new on-campus location, giving fan bases around the nation the opportunity to showcase their school spirit. Earning a visit from the College GameDay crew is something of a confirmation for a program on the rise, as the show travels to the site of one of the week’s top matchups.

Broadcasting this week from Bristol Motor Speedway, site of a neutral-site game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech, the show decided to take a moment to recap the highlights from last night’s ACC showdown between the Syracuse Orangemen and the visiting 13th-ranked Louisville Cardinals.

It was a mismatch, with the Cardinals knocking off Syracuse 62-28. The focus of the highlights was Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, who exploded against the Orangemen to become the first quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 400 yards and rush for 200 yards in a single game — and did this to a defender:

Another part of the charm of College GameDay is the fact that it offers the opportunity for off-the-cuff exuberance from the studio team, with Lee Corso the ringleader of the mayhem. Today, however, that unbridled excitement might have prematurely revealed the site of next week’s broadcast, something that is usually guarded until after the current weekend’s games have been played.

  • If this is true, the College GameDay crew has selected Louisville as the site of next week’s broadcast. The Cardinals will take on Florida State in a contest that will likely determine which hopeful will compete with Clemson for the ACC Atlantic this year, and Jackson’s performances over the past two weeks have made him a way-too-early contender for the Heisman.

ESPN might not be happy about the reveal, but it is certainly a worthy choice and among the premier games of Week 3. Of course, fans in Lincoln (Oregon at Nebraska), Oxford (Alabama at Ole Miss), Norman (Ohio State at Oklahoma), Provo (UCLA at BYU), and Berkeley (Texas at Cal) might not be so happy about the selection — or about learning they weren’t selected even before their teams had played.

Florida State could still lose this week, causing ESPN to backtrack on this decision. But given that they are playing a Charleston Southern team that will be without 14 suspended players, it is highly likely that Corso just revealed the locale for next week’s College GameDay broadcast.
