The Southeastern Conference has cancelled this weekend’s game between the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers due to inclement weather. Hurricane Matthew was upgraded to a Category 4 late Thursday morning.

Due to Hurricane Matthew, the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers upcoming matchup is postponed indefinitely. The Gators and Tigers were set to square off this Saturday at noon in Gainesville, Florida but not anymore due to the incoming hurricane.

Both sides will attempt to reschedule the game but the Gators and Tigers do not have a common open date on their schedule.

Hurricane Matthew was upgraded to a Category 4 late Thursday morning and has already caused over 100 deaths in Haiti. Warnings from the National Weather Service are that Florida could be uninhabitable for weeks.

Florida Governor Rick Scott urged Florida residents to evacuate, following it up with “This is going to kill people.”  The hurricane has reached winds of up 140 mph and is projected to do a lot of damage if it makes landfall.

The game leaves both LSU and Florida at 2-1 in the SEC. With both teams battling injury, the postponed game gives both teams extra time for recovery as the season goes forward.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette was doubtful to play to a sprained ankle. Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio was questionable with a knee injury.

Last week, the LSU Tigers had a record-setting day in interim head coach Ed Orgeron’s first game. They set a school record 634 total offensive yards. 418 of those yards came on the ground in a 42-7 route of the Missouri Tigers.

Back up running backs Derricus Guice and Darrel Williams ran for career-highs 163 and 130 rushing yards respectively and three touchdowns each. Guice had 9.6 yards per carry, Williams had 6.2.

The LSU-Florida game has been postponed until further notice and it is unlikely to be rescheduled this season.
