The Mountaineers have quietly put together an impressive undefeated season and its time the rest of college football took notice.

West Virginia came into the game with a 4-0 record and very little respect.  The Mountaineers put all that to rest today in Lubbock Texas.  They held the high-flying Raiders offense to only 17 points and 379 yards of total offense.

West Virginia on the other hand took advantage of the porous Texas Tech defense totaling 650 yards of total offense including 332 on the ground. Skylar Howard was 21-of-31 for 318 yards and 1 touchdown to lead the Mountaineers offense.

Texas Tech was primed for the upset and came into the game looking to end the Mountaineers perfect season, however, it was not Red Raiders’ day.  The Raiders managed only seven points in the first half and only 34 yards rushing on the day.  West Virginia on the other hand averaged 10.3 yards per pass and 7.2 yards per rush attempt respectively.

With this win the Moutaineers let the rest of the Big 12 know that they are a team to be reckoned with and are going to compete for the conference championship, and perhaps a spot in the College Football Playoff.  Next week West Virginia will host TCU in Morgantown before traveling to Stillwater to face off against Oklahoma State on October 29th.

Many pundits have anointed the Sooners as the best team in the Big 12 after last week’s win over Texas in the Red River Rivalry, but the Mountaineers might have something to say about that. Along with Baylor, West Virginia is one of only two teams in Big 12 without a loss.  If they can get through the season without a loss they would have a good case for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
