ESPN smart to give Tim Tebow multi-year college football analyst deal?

ESPN has signed Tim Tebow to a multi-year extension as a college football analyst, but was this the right move?

A couple of weeks ago, ESPN revealed that it would be laying off about 100 employees, most notably NFL insider Ed Werder. The network shocked fans with this announcement, but it seemed like they’d be avoiding any hiring or contract extensions in the near future.

On Monday, ESPN announced another interesting contractual move as it has signed a multiyear extension with Tim Tebow as a college football analyst. Tebow has been working with the SEC Network‘s traveling show SEC Nation for three years.

Tebow expressed his gratitude for the extension.

"“Over the last three years ESPN and the SEC Nation crew have become like family,” said Tebow. “I love the passion that SEC fans bring to our set every Saturday morning and I look forward to continuing to share my own love of the game with fans on ESPN and SEC Network.”"

While he’s one of the most knowledgable and hard-working individuals in sports, he has another commitment that might hold him back from joining SEC Nation from the start of the season.

Tebow currently plays for the New York Mets’ Single-A affiliate, the Columbia Fireflies. He’s batting .242 with two home runs and nine RBIs and pursuing a career in baseball is something he has really put his mind to recently.

Despite being consumed with baseball, Tebow has time to make for SEC Nation. He has been an integral part of the crew and SEC fans unsurprisingly love what he has to say. If there’s anyone who knows a ton about the SEC and playing in the conference, it’s Tebow.

Sure, ESPN laid off a number of employees, but Tebow is a guy who always has fans’ respect and will bring in ratings. This was a smart move for the network.
