Clemson football was honored at a reception at the White House this week following their 2017 National Championship victory.

The dramatic and award-winning 2017 season for the Clemson Tigers’ football season had a satisfying ending this week. The team was invited to the White House for a visit with President Donald Trump.

In the 2017 National Championship Game, Clemson came from behind to defeat the No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, 35-31, in a spectacular last-minute play. The Tigers drove 68 yards in the last two minutes of the game.

Then, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson slammed a two-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with one second remaining.  The play won the game for the Tigers and solidified their place in history — after all, the Tigers took out a team that had not lost in 26 games.

In case you’ve forgotten, here is a quick refresher of the awesome winning play.

The president had great things to say about both the program and about many of the players, particularly Watson. He called the program a “winning machine”, but did temper his remark by stating that Renfrow was lucky to have caught the ball.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and school president Jim Clements presented Trump and his son with Clemson jerseys. The team got a reception and a tour and then ended their jaunt with a rousing rendition of the Clemson fight song.
