Texas A&M football has the tall task of upsetting Alabama on the road in Week 4. If they’re going to do it, they’ll need Kellen Mond‘s mobility to shine.

Two weeks removed from a dogfight with No. 2 Clemson, Texas A&M football hits the road to play No. 2 Alabama in Week 4. As they were against the Tigers, the Aggies are double-digit underdogs in their second test against a returning College Football Playoff team. The fight Jimbo Fisher’s squad put up in Week 2 proves they won’t back down from the task at hand.

And upset in Tuscaloosa might not be as impossible as it sounds. To do it, they’ll need a strong day on the ground from their starting quarterback Kellen Mond.

The last team to beat the juggernaut Nick Saban has assembled was the Auburn Tigers last year. Tigers’ quarterback Jarrett Stidham carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards, not a jaw-dropping stat line by any means, but it was enough mobility to keep the Crimson Tide defense honest, enabling the Tigers’ offense to move the ball both on the ground and through the air.

Kellen Mond is 4-1 all-time when rushing for 50 yards, with the lone loss coming when he entered the UCLA game as an emergency backup at the Rose Bowl. Mond has come a long way since then, winning four straight when he’s had some opportunities to test his legs.

Mond managed just 14 yards on the ground against Alabama last season, a game in which Texas A&M lost by one score.

One final intriguing detail: the last Texas A&M quarterback to rush for 50 yards against Alabama in Tuscaloosa? Johnny Manziel in 2012. He tallied 92 yards on the ground on 18 carries. And you know what Aggies always say — once something happens twice, it’s tradition.
