Indiana running back Darius Willis’s Saturday night foray into independent professional wrestling has been all the buzz nationally today, courtesy of IU’s Daily Student. The Student has audio of an interview with Willis, as well as video of his involvement in the Infinity Pro Wrestling show’s main event.

Due to a knee injury, Willis did not make the trip to Denton, Texas for the Hoosiers’ loss to North Texas, wherein another back, Lance Dunbar, ran wild on the IU defense. Coincidentally, UNT has its own football-wrestling connection. Pictured at right is Steve Williams, a former Mean Green player who would gain success under the moniker Steve Austin.

Austin’s pro wrestling career got its start under humble beginnings. In the Texas-based World Class Championship promotion, the man who would become Stone Cold had a football-based persona nearly a decade before his t-shirts were popular among high school dorks such as myself — had I known the ironic potential of wearing a beat up Austin 3:16 shirt in 2011, I would have kept mine.

Anyone, the moral here is if Willis has found a possible career path with his football days likely over per The Indianapolis Star, he should embrace it.

  • From the bottom of the Big Ten to the top, Wisconsin’s welcoming of Nebraska into Camp Randall for the conference opener has the Midwest riled into a fever pitch. The atmosphere in Madison should be electric, as podcast guest Jack Moore said. The presence of ESPN College GameDay should exacerbate the fever pitch, and perhaps elevate the homestanding Badgers’ play. Moore has a breakdown of how past Badgers have fared when GameDay comes to Madison over at BadgerOfHonor.com.

Wake Forest’s “Super Bowl Shuffle” inspired “Deacon Rap”

    .

Deacon Rap is the great grandfather to the below track, produced by and starring current Wake free safety Josh Bush. Bush has eight tackles and an interception through the Deacs’ first three games.

Wake’s ACC partner Miami had its own hip hop endeavor garner headlines. The 7th Floor Crew’s highly explicit rap exemplified the swagger of the early 2000s Miami teams.

The current ‘Canes could use a dash of that attitude, sans the NCAA violations of course, if they are to make a run at a bowl game. Miami’s woes are currently the result of a rush defense at its worst since 1995, which Danny Hobrock of CanesWarning.com analyzes.
