Nebraska Introduces New adidas Alternate Uniform
By Kyle Kensing
Tom Osborne announced in April that Nebraska would wear an alternate uniform once in 2012. adidas revealed that alternate on Friday.
adidas brands the TechFit uniform as “Unrivaled,” though elements of the new attire are very reminiscent of other looks debuted last season. Stanford sported a Nike Combat Pro look against Notre Dame that replaced its traditional white helmet with black, but kept the red block logo. The Cardinal also went all red with the jersey-pant combination, as Nebraska has done.
The Cornhuskers also sport a big block “N” more prominently than the numbers on the jersey front, much like fellow Big Ten and adidas-sponsored school Michigan wore once in 2011.
Many of adidas’ partners are programs that have traditional looks, but to compete with the industry juggernaut Nike, the Three Stripe brand has been rolling out modern looks on special occasions. Notre Dame sported green twice, including Kelly green with a glimmering golden helmet for its tilt with Maryland. UCLA debuted an all-white look for the regular season finale, though after the result one couldn’t blame the Bruin equipment staff for locking those away for good.
