Florida WR Coach Aubrey Hill Resigns, Had Ties to Nevin Shapiro
By Kyle Kensing
Florida wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill resigned Friday morning, less than a month before the Gators’ 2012 season opener against Bowling Green. Hill released a statement, saying his departure was for “personal issues” that could be a “distraction” for the program.
Immediate speculation has turned to Hill’s name being specifically mentioned in Charles Robinson’s Yahoo! Sports report of NCAA violations allegedly committed at Miami. The NCAA is investigating improprieties at Miami, as imprisoned Ponzi scheme conspirator and former UM booster Nevin Shapiro has detailed in testimony.
Hill was an assistant to Randy Shannon from 2008 through 2010, and part of Al Golden’s Hurricane staff for two weeks before taking the UF job at the end of 2010.
The ongoing investigation into Shapiro’s allegations could continue to have collateral damage. Robinson targeted Golden, who has touted efforts to clean up the program. Golden retained equipment manager Sean Allen, who Robinson described as a right hand man to Shapiro. However, Allen and the Hurricane program split in August 2011, the same month Shapiro’s initial allegations surfaced.
CBS Sports reporter Bruce Feldman cites current Louisville associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt as a likely focal point in the Miami investigations.
The latest round of charges made against Miami center around the recruitment of south Florida prep star and current UL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Hurtt’s name is hardly new in this discussion, though. Card Chronicle examined how the investigation would impact UL football and Hurtt last August.
