Former Auburn Running Back Michael Dyer Not Playing Football in 2012 . . . Anywhere
By Rich Lynch
Wednesday, Michael Dyer announced that he will enroll at a school near his hometown of Little Rock,Ark. and he will not play football in 2012. Rumors of Dyer transferring to FCS Prairie View A&M ran rampant late Monday night and into Tuesday.
According to a report by ESPN.com’s Joe Schad, Dyer’s spokesman and Uncle Andre Dyer:
"“There have been growing pains and bad decisions . . . So much attention and so many influences from so many directions. I just want him to be the young man he was when he left Little Rock.”"
Dyer set an Auburn freshman rushing record by rushing for 1,093 yards in 2010. He broke AU legend Bo Jackson’s previous record of 892 yards. Dyer was also named MVP of the BCS National Championship game against Oregon in the 2010 season. In 2011, Dyer ran for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dyer could have been described as going downhill because of his running style and his production on the field.
Dyer could also be described as going downhill because of issues off the field. He was suspended indefinitely byAuburnbecause of a rules transgression before the Chick-fil-A Bowl in 2011. Dyer then transferred to Arkansas State. Soon after transferring he was suspended for a traffic stop that involved guns and marijuana. The NCAA denied his eligibility to play for Arkansas State. ASU dismissed Dyer from the program later in July.
It sounds like Michael has hit the brakes and is working to turn his situation around.
