UPDATED: TCU QB Casey Pachall Arrested on DWI, Suspended Indefinitely
By Kyle Kensing
TCU quarterback Casey Pachall was reportedly arrested on a DWI charge late Wednesday, per Dallas-Fort Worth NBC 5.
Via CBS Sports.com writer Matt Hinton:
"Citing Forth Worth police, the station reports that Pachall, 21, was pulled over near TCU’s campus shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday morning for running a stop sign and hitting a curb, and subsequently registering a blood-alcohol concentration of greater than .15 – nearly twice the legal limit in Texas, .08. Pachall was reportedly being held this morning on $1,000 bond. There has not been a statement from the university of head coach Gary Patterson."
Per the Associated Press, Gary Patterson has suspended Pachall indefinitely.
Pachall led TCU to a 4-0 start and top 15 ranking, throwing just south of 1000 yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception with a 65.8 completion rating. Pachall is in his second year as starter since assuming the reins from current NFL and four-year TCU starter Andy Dalton.
The Frog quarterback Pachall admitted to drug use during an off-season sting that implicated former members of Gary Patterson’s program. An apologetic Pachall told media that he made a one-time mistake, and Patterson stood by his quarterback.
Patterson stressed uprooting problem cases when alerted to drug use on the team by a recruit. Benching Pachall Saturday means starting Trevone Boykin against a good defense in Iowa State. Boykin is a redshirt freshman who has seen limited repetitions this season. He’s thrown 10 passes, albeit one for a touchdown.
But most significant is the next step for Pachall himself, the young man and student, separate of football. It’s important to stress that more details will surface, but after his heartfelt apology in August, an intoxicant arrest so shortly removed suggests a deeper issue. More on this story as it develops.
