Vaenuku signed with Utah in the winter. He was a three-star defensive end prospect out of Euless (Texas) Trinity, where Uhatafe was also enrolled. Vaenuku was 18; Uhatafe was 13.

Trinity has a memorial page on its website for well-wishers to share condolences.

Manukainiu tweeted on Monday that he had a “22 hour drive on no sleep,” from Utah back to Texas. The accident occurred on U.S. 550, north of Albuquerque.
