5. Gary Patterson
There’s no question Gary Patterson is one of the best coaches in the conference, but the top spots will be reserved for recent Big 12 champs. Here’s a prediction that I stand by; Patterson will lead the Horned Frogs to a Big 12 title within five years of being a member. Despite the struggles TCU has faced in the first two years of the transfer to the Big 12, the Frog defense has been one of the best in the conference. The addition of co-offensive coordinators Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbine should propel an offense that has staggered during the last two seasons. TCU has only two losing seasons under Patterson, and had been a consistent top 25 team to go along with three top 10 finishes from 2008-10 prior to the conference change. Make no mistake, Patterson is one of the top coaches in the nation.
