Special Teams

The Sooners are set on special teams, which will be a huge deal for a squad hoping to be on the cusp of the college football playoff. At punter, senior Jed Barnett averaged 41.7 yards per punt last year, had 22 of his 65 punts pinned inside the 20, and had 22 of his 65 punts fair caught. That’s a pretty good stat line, and it proves he can do his job. He’s no superstar, but he’s good enough to do exactly what the Sooners need.

At kicker, senior Michael Hunnicutt is a star. Despite unfortunately missing 1 extra point last year, the guy was almost completely reliable, going 24 of 27 on kicks. He was perfect under 30, was 21 of 22 under 40, and went 3 of 5 from 40 yards and beyond, and 1 of those misses was a 50-yarder. Hunnicutt nailed a 47-yarder last year and is very accurate. He’s everything you need in a college football kicker. Final Prediction on Next Slide
