Special Teams

Stanford’s special teams is set with Montgomery back as an All-American returner and both the kicker and punter back. And theyr’e both very good. Senior punter Ben Rhyne is on the Ray Guy watch list this year after averaging 42.9 yards per punt last year, nailing 15 of his 52 punts inside the 20 yard line, and having 13 fair caught. He is a very solid punter, and with a defense as tough as Stanford’s, field position usually plays a big role.

At kicker, Jordan Williamson is a flat out stud if he stays healthy. Last year he nailed 18 of 22 kicks, was perfect under 30 yards, only missed 1 out of 16 kicks under 40 yards, and he was 3 for 6 40 yards and beyond, with 2 of those misses coming from 50. Take out his 0 for 2 record from 50 and beyond, and Williamson is 20 for 22 on field goals. True he missed an extra point, but like kicks under 40 yards, missing 1 is forgivable. Expect him to be a star this year, and as the offense has lots of talent that needs to still develop, he’ll come in very handy the first half of the season. Continue to Next Slide for Final Analysis and Prediction
