Big Ten Preseason Rankings: Michigan State Spartans Again?
Big Ten West
5. Northwestern Wildcats
The Northwestern Wildcats have enough talent to go 8-4 and are bad enough to go 2-10.

Going 8-4 is what fans will reasonably stick with. Pat Fitzgerald’s team could easily jump Minnesota and Iowa in these standings, but I’m going to stick with the safe pick here for once.
Despite so much talent back and Fitzgerald’s very good recruiting job, it’s hard jump a 5-7 team over two two teams who beat said team last year. Add that both games are on the road again this year with the new split, and it spells rough news.
Still, the Wildcats have enough to reach 6 wins if they can beat up on Illinois and Purdue, win their first three out of conference games, and pull off an upset somewhere. Otherwise, they’re back to 5-7 again.
