4. Louisville Cardinals

This is a very overhyped team this year. So what if Bobby Petrino’s there? The Cardinals don’t have enough talent for them to be nearly as good as everybody is predicting.

  • Louisville may be returning a lot of talent outside of the quarterback position, but Teddy Bridgewater is such a big loss at quarterback that you can’t expect Petrino to immediately come in and turn this into a top 25 team. Remember, as great as he is, he struggled to a 5-7 record with a rebuilding Arkansas team his first year there.

Fortunately, that won’t be the case this year, but there still isn’t enough to finish in the top three in the conference. I don’t care that Louisville beat Miami in last year’s bowl game; that’s a loss this year. So are Florida State and Clemson, and I’m sticking with Syracuse to beat them at the Carrier Dome this year. That already drops them to 4-4. And Boston College on the road is no guarantee.

Notre Dame is the only tough non-conference game, so the Cardinals luckily are good enough to be a 7-win team and the future is bright. But there’s no division championship this year, in the ACC.
