Vegas Big Ten Predictions

Middle Tennessee at Minnesota

Line: Minnesota by 16

Questionable defense vs. loaded offense. That’s what this game brings. Minnesota is looking to take another big step with head coach Jerry Kill at the helm this year, and after the defense has been lagging behind the offense the past couple of years, it appeared to catch up against Eastern Illinois, as the Golden Gophers were pitching a shutout until the second half of the fourth quarter, when they took their foot off the pedal with a 35-0 lead. The offense appears to be fine, and the defense will face another test this week.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have put out pretty good offenses over the past years, and after 9 touchdowns in their opener, it could be great this year. But they also have major questions on defense, which relied on forcing turnovers all of last year. They’ll have trouble repeating that this year, so to pull off the upset here, it’ll take great offense.

Prediction

Middle Tennessee will make this an interesting shootout, but Minnesota will pull away in this one pretty easily in the second half. Depth is still an issue with the Golden Gophers, but they have enough offense to play a full 60 minutes.

Minnesota: 45 Middle Tennessee: 34
