Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings: SEC Tougher than Ever, Big Ten Worse than Expected

Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings Week 3

9. Mid-American Conference (MAC)

And the MAC still remains pathetic. But it’s a bit better. This past weekend, MAC teams Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois all scored non-conference wins. The Falcons had one against a Big Ten team, probably the best non-conference win of the year for the MAC.

Those wins are enough to finally move the MAC ahead of the Sun Belt, but that’s about it.

Putting it at No. 9 is a testament to how bad the conference was the first two weeks of college football. And this past week, those nice wins were offset by more bad losses. Old Dominion beat Eastern Michigan, and in most embarrassing fashion, Indiana State beat Ball State. Cincinnati thumped Toledo as well. The rest of the non-conference games were blowout losses on the MAC’s side against all Power Five teams.

Essentially, the conference did not do enough to move up any rankings, so for that it remains near the bottom. But at least it isn’t the worst conference anymore, if you think being better than a conference loaded with what should be a bunch of FCS teams is something to brag about.
