Saturday Blitz Week 3 SEC Power Rankings

14. Vanderbilt Commodores, 1-2 (0-1), Defeated Massachusetts Minutemen 34-31 Last Saturday

The Vanderbilt Commodores are the one team impossible to defend. Playing in the SEC doesn’t explain getting blown out by Temple in your opener and then needing to rally to beat a really bad UMASS team. Simply put, this is a bad team without James Franklin, and it’s not appearing to get any better under Derek Mason. This offense is still flat-out pathetic and will look that way throughout the entire season.

Consider that the Commodores only had 310 yards of total offense in their win and needed to capitalize off of a lucky turnover to score one touchdown. This offense has looked awful throughout the year as it has changed quarterbacks consistently.

But there is a silver lining. Vanderbilt remains the worst team in the conference, but the switch to quarterback Patton Robinette this game could be a bright spot. The sophomore looked far better than anybody else on the team has looked so far, and although it was just against UMASS, he also looked the best of all the quarterbacks who played against Temple two weeks ago. Mason may have found something there for Vandy to maybe, and that’s a big maybe, move up this list.

But that will be hard given how good every other team in the SEC is.
