SEC West Dominates in Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
Saturday Blitz Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
9. Mississippi State Bulldogs, 3-0 (0-0), Defeated South Alabama Jaguars 35-3 Last Saturday
Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State Bulldogs have looked great through three games, good enough to compete for the SEC Western Division title. Especially on offense, as Dak Prescott has made a strong case to be a dark-horse Heisman Trophy candidate so far.
But here’s the kicker: they haven’t played anybody yet. Southern Miss, UAB, and South Alabama is about as easy an opening schedule you can have. They’re not to be blamed for that since they have to play in the SEC West, but it’s still not enough to put them that high on this list yet. The Bulldogs also have to answer for how they gave up 34 points to the UAB Blazers two Saturdays. How they play against Southern Miss and South Alabama, two awful teams, is irrelevant.
The Bulldogs get to show who they truly are this week with a trip to LSU this Saturday. This is where exciting SEC play begins, and we’ll finally be able to distinguish between the variety of great teams in the SEC West. Is Mississippi State a Top 25 team? Or are they just decent?
