Nebraska, Penn State Shine in Week 4 Big Ten Power Rankings
Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 4
10. Minnesota Golden Gophers, 3-1 (0-0), Defeated San Jose State Spartans 24-7 Last Saturday
Jerry Kill’s third team showed improvement this past weekend after a bad loss to TCU the week before. Right now, there’s not enough on the resume to have the Minnesota Golden Gophers that high on the Big Ten Power Rankings, but there will be as time goes on and conference play begins.
Finally, in their win against San Jose State, the defense showed that it can play, which had been an issue through the first three games of the season. But unfortunately, as the defense has started to show up, the offense is now raising questions. Minnesota likes to focus so heavily on the run game that having the 124th ranked passing offense is not a problem. It is a problem, though, if you only have the 30th ranked rush offense.
For the Golden Gophers to move up this list, the running game is going to have to improve in a hurry, because the defense is almost there. Kill’s team is going to have to put together a complete performance at some point.
