Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 5

12. Florida Gators, 2-1 (1-1), Idle Last Saturday

Like Kentucky, Florida has done absolutely nothing yet to prove it’s a good team. A blowout win against Eastern Michigan to start the season doesn’t cut it, and neither does one good half against Alabama. They still should have lost to Kentucky, who struggled with Vanderbilt, who is the worst team in the conference.

That’s why we have put Florida at No. 12 for now. The Gators have seriously appeared to fall from grace under Will Muschamp, but it’s a long season, and there’s plenty of time for him to make up ground. This low placement is only due to three games, and the loss to Alabama is still nothing to be ashamed of. Florida could still do a lot of things, including making a bowl game, getting back into the Top 25, and winning the wide open SEC East. There’s no reason these things can’t happen with the talent on the team.

But the offense simply looks bad. Jeff Driskel is not the same quarterback he was before his injury, and it looks glaringly obvious so far this season. Perhaps he can start to look better coming off of a bye week, but it doesn’t look good right now. Florida had better keep their streak against Tennessee alive this Saturday if they want to move up this list.
