Vegas SEC Predictions Week 6

South Carolina Gamecocks at Kentucky Wildcats

Line: South Carolina by 5

In this battle for SEC East mediocrity, one team right now is feeling pretty down on itself, and it’s the unexpected one between these two by this part of the season. Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks appear as if they have no energy right now and nothing to look forward to after their loss to Missouri. Dylan Thompson looks inaccurate, and the offense is sputtering too often. Against a good Kentucky defense, that could be a problem because the Gamecocks are also still dealing with the switch to a 3-4 defense, so that can be inconsistent at times. This is just the recipe for the Wildcats to pull of the upset if Thompson is not accurate and the defense gets confused.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, first need to make sure they don’t do anything to lose the game at home on Saturday night. This team has enough talent on defense to give the Gamecocks fits on the right day. But the offense can’t lose the game. If they can avoid losing the game, they also have to move the ball to get a few more points and take advantage of confusion that will inevitably come at some point with this Gamecocks defense during the game. Whether or not Kentucky pulls off the upset depends on if the offense can finally show that it is decent.

Prediction

The Wildcats will keep things close with South Carolina early and have the home crowd involved, but Steve Spurrier will put on his genius cap and scheme the Gamecocks to victory. Thompson will play just well enough to win the game, and the Kentucky defense won’t live up to what it’s expected to do this weekend. Meanwhile, the offense will be its usual self and not put up points.
