Saturday Blitz Week 6 Big Ten Power Rankings

Ohio State is back on track. After a blowout win against Maryland, you can go ahead and put them back among the Big Ten elite, and you can start talking about them as a potential college football playoff team again. The Virginia Tech loss looks more and more like a fluke.

But pump the brakes a bit. The Buckeyes ran into a team that matches their style of play but is simply not as good at it, so Urban Meyer’s squad was naturally going to win the one-on-one match-ups. J.T. Barrett is starting to look great at quarterback, and perhaps this team isn’t going to miss Braxton Miller in Big Ten play after all. The offense looks as good as ever since that Virginia Tech loss, and the only question is if the defense can stay consistent into second halves.

After a bye this week, Rutgers should be a winnable game at home for the Buckeyes on Oct. 18. Then they should beat Penn State and Illinois as well before we get set for that epic Nov. 8 showdown with Michigan State, which could determine the Big Ten East and Big Ten championship.

But for right now, Meyer’s squad just needs to keep up this offensive rhythm. That’s why we have them back at No. 2.
