Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 7

Well, Steve Addazio’s Boston College Eagles aren’t so bad after all. Their losses to Pitt and Colorado State are inexplicable when you take into account their wins against USC and now N.C. State in a blowout. We just can’t get a consistent read on this team. But, after expecting it to have a drop-off, Addazio’s second group is right back in contention for a bowl game again.

That’s a lot of encouragement given how inexperienced some of these guys are, and the youth might be a reason for the inconsistency. Tyler Murphy has become exactly what Addazio needs at quarterback, and he has added another dimension to this team’s running game. He’s good enough through the air, but while last year Addazio had to line up in power formations and run it a lot, this year he gets to add the option element and keep the ball in his best rusher’s hands. That has turned the Eagles into another winning team different from last year, and it helps that the defense is only giving up 19 points a game.

Boston College is in great position to make another bowl game now. Wake Forest and Syracuse are still on the schedule, and both of those should be wins. They have to be to make the Eagles bowl eligible, and if we can go a head and circle them, then they have house money against Clemson, Louisville, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

But we still can’t trust them, which is why they’re in the bottom half of our power rankings.
