Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 7

They’re No. 1 in the country, and they’re No. 1 in our power rankings. Who else could we put here? Mississippi State has three straight quality wins, and they’re all blowout wins. Yes, we’re calling LSU a blowout win despite the score being 34-29. The Bulldogs are a complete team and have by far the best resume of any team in college football right now, and the way they have looked only adds to the fact that they should be No. 1. Don’t forget that although Auburn made quite a few mistakes Saturday, these guys made mistakes as well.

Dak Prescott looks every bit like the Heisman winner right now, playing better than anybody in college football and making accurate throws consistently. Josh Robinson is only adding to that, and Dan Mullen has managed to field a very experienced team everywhere that has led to it blowing out opponents. At this point, instead of calling Mississippi State the Auburn of last year, we should call them the Florida State of last year. They’re annihilating people the way the Seminoles did, except they’re doing it in the SEC.

We have to pump our brakes slightly though. The Bulldogs have gotten through the toughest three-game stretch of their schedule, but they have the two toughest games on the horizon. Well, first off they can’t overlook two good teams in Kentucky and Arkansas. But there is a road game with Alabama on Nov. 15, and they have the Egg Bowl the final Saturday of the year. So as great as the Bulldogs have been so far, their work is far from finished.

But to this point, they’ve looked better than anybody in the country. It’s enough for them to be No. 1 in the country, No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings, and No. 1 in the state of Mississippi.
