Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 7

Obviously, this isn’t a surprise. The Baylor Bears pulled off the most exciting Big 12 win of the year with that epic performance against TCU, and as the only undefeated team left in the Big 12, there’s no way we can leave them off of the top spot. This team now has a major quality win on its resume, finally, and is halfway to an undefeated season. They look more ready for the college football playoff than anybody else right now.

Baylor proved that it has a legitimate offense by going on a scoring rampage against TCU in the fourth quarter. That quarter alone launched Bryce Petty back into the Heisman race, and it also proved that the offense being ranked No. 1 in the country in scoring is no gimmick. They came up big in the biggest moments, and it’s enough to say that Art Briles has an offense that could score at will on anybody. Remember that TCU is supposed to have a good defense. Baylor’s defense, however, could come into question. That was the first decent offense they faced all year, and they got torched. The defense is still ranked in the Top 25, but how does it stack up against non-pathetic offenses?

Well, we get to find out this week with a trip to West Virginia, a team that has a pretty good offense. No matter what, Baylor’s offense is good enough to lead it to victory against anybody. And after the Mountaineers comes a bye, then Kansas. With Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State still up later in the year, the defense will have to improve and play better than it did Saturday to stay undefeated.

But thanks to the offense, this team is No. 1 in the Big 12 for right now.
