Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 8

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are starting to look like giant frauds. Seriously. This team had a 5-0 start and has now lost to North Carolina and Duke. So why do we still have them in our Top 5? Well, the win over Miami isn’t terrible, and honestly, this team should actually be 7-0. Turnovers cost them the Duke game, and they should’ve never allowed that 75-yard UNC drive. This could still be a great team.

Justin Thomas is still obviously a very valuable quarterback in Paul Johnson’s triple-option offense, but he has to do more running the ball than he did on Saturday. Sure, he had 3 touchdown passes, but how do you expect Georgia Tech to win when he doesn’t even have 40 yards on the ground in a triple-option offense? That’s another reason we have Georgia Tech so high, though. We don’t believe Thomas will keep messing up like this.

With Pittsburgh, Virginia, and N.C. State up next, we have enough to believe that the Yellow Jackets can make it to 8-2 before their last two games of the season. But they have got to do a better job of not making mistakes. Otherwise, this season could fall down the drain much faster.

We don’t believe that will happen, hence the No. 5 ranking we still give them.
