SEC Power Rankings Week 8: Missouri, LSU, Alabama Rise
Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 8
The Mississippi State Bulldogs shouldn’t be bumped for simply not playing one week. They belong obviously with Ole Miss atop the SEC Power Rankings and in the Top 3 in the country, but the body of work still favors the Bulldogs over the Rebels in the SEC. We don’t care how good the Rebels looked against a bad SEC team in Tennessee.
Considering that Mississippi State can match Ole Miss’s Alabama win with an Auburn blowout, both teams blew out Texas A&M, and then Mississippi State also blew out LSU, the Bulldogs have looked slightly better and have a far better resume to this point. Dak Prescott has morphed into a Heisman candidate and should still be at the top of that list while Dan Mullen should be at the top of everybody’s Coach of the Year list.
The Bulldogs still have a ways to go, though, with Alabama still up before that Egg Bowl showdown. Obviously, the Tide are now on a roll and eyeing Mississippi State. But the Bulldogs also have to go through the rest of their SEC schedule in games they can’t take lightly. Simply put, it’s still very hard to envision an undefeated Egg Bowl.
But right now, those are the top two teams in the conference, and Mississippi State has still earned its No. 1 ranking despite not playing this past weekend.
