Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 8

Kansas State’s only loss on the season is on a Thursday night to a very good Auburn team. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, but we held it against them when doing our power rankings for a while. It was why we couldn’t put them at No. 1. That has officially changed now, and there was no reason for it not to. A big win on the road against Oklahoma, however lucky, is to celebrate, and it’s a big enough win the put this team at the top. They have no bad losses and a great win now.

Bill Snyder’s team is no joke. Jake Waters is officially a star at quarterback who can run and throw, and Tyler Lockett is a stud receiver. So is Curry Sexton. The amount of weapons at his disposal has given Snyder a very diverse offense to work with that can win in many ways. Add to that the fact that the defense has only given up 22.5 points a game and is yet to give up more than 30 points a game, and you have a complete team that could easily win the Big 12.

The Wildcats, surprisingly, also control their own destiny for a spot in the College Football Playoff. But they have to keep winning, and now things get really tough. Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia, and Baylor are still on the schedule. Three of those four games are on the road. Texas and Kansas are two games that should be wins, but we’ll find out what we need to know about the Wildcats in those other four games. Are they contenders or pretenders?

We believe they are contenders, which is why they have topped our Week 8 Big 12 Power Rankings.
