Saturday Blitz Vegas Big Ten Prediction: Maryland Wins 38-27

At the beginning of this season, many analysts would have said that this would at best be a game between two teams fighting to reach bowl-eligibility. At worst, they would be smacked in the mouth by their rough first year in the Big Ten.

But what nobody saw coming was both teams being bowl eligible and looking to add icing on the cake. To add insult to injury in disproving the fake toughness of the Big Ten, Maryland could be playing to have a winning record in the conference and its best win-loss year during the Randy Edsall era. So much for Big Ten toughness.

The icing on this cake, though, will go to the Terps. Kyle Flood and Rutgers have no running game and rely on Gary Nova to throw it all over the field. That’s perfect for Maryland, who is undersized up front but has some serious skill in players like Will Likely in the secondary.

Meanwhile, even without Stefon Diggs, the Terps have enough skill players on offense to torch the Rutgers defense. That will be the end result, as Maryland is a significantly better team than Rutgers right now despite the fact that both will probably go bowling.

Maryland wins an ugly one, as they’ve done all year.
