25. Minnesota Golden Gophers, 8-4 (5-3)

Last Game: Lost to Wisconsin Badgers 34-24

Next Game: Bowl Game

As we get set to explain why Minnesota belongs in the Top 25, let’s bring up who they got in over. They belonged over 9-3 Louisville, who had a strength of schedule out of the Top 100 based on the RPI’s system of schedule strength applied in college basketball. They also belonged in over Marshall and Colorado State, both of whom also have pathetic schedules.

At 8-4, Minnesota is a Power Five team that has been very impressive under Jerry Kill once again. Their four losses are to TCU, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Illinois. All four are bowl teams, three are in the Top 15, and two are in the Top 10. They also have a very impressive quality win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, so all things considered, with a Top 50 strength of schedule, they definitely belong in the Top 25. The team has an identity that it has stuck to all year and proved that the Big Ten West wasn’t that much worse than the Big Ten East this year.
