Why Missouri, Wisconsin, and Georgia Tech are Too Low

We are okay with Arizona being the highest ranked 2-loss team given their quality victories. And we are also okay with Missouri being the lowest ranked 2-loss team playing this weekend because of their weak SEC East schedule, their lack of quality victories, and their bad loss to Indiana.

But there is no way that the Tigers, the Yellow Jackets, and the Badgers should all be so low. Let’s stick with the Tigers first. They won the SEC East at 10-2, and another 9-3 SEC East team that beat them gets to be ahead of them. How does that work out? Because Georgia beat them?

Well, head-to-head should only be a tiebreaker. And although UCLA has played a tougher schedule than the Tigers, they should not be ranked ahead of them either with their 9-3 record because it’s not that much of a difference in schedule strength.

Missouri should at least be No. 14, not No. 16. But in reality, they should crack the Top 10 with a chance to reach the College Football Playoff this weekend.

Wisconsin at No. 13 is far too low. The Badgers have quality wins against Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska on their resume, and it should be enough to put them all the way ahead of another Big Ten opponent, Michigan State. Wisconsin should honestly be the No. 8 ranked team in the country right behind Arizona.

Finally, Georgia Tech at No. 11 is not too bad, but with back to back Top 25 wins on the resume at 10-2 and a chance to play Florida State to win the ACC Championship, at least give them a chance to vault into the College Football Playoff. Move them into the Top 10.

Only Mississippi State, Michigan State, and Ole Miss deserved to be in league with the five 2-loss Power Five teams possibly playing for a conference championship this weekend. But the Selection Committee didn’t do that, and that is completely unfair.
