2014 Finish: 7-6 (Defeated Iowa Hawkeyes 45-28 in the TaxSlayer Bowl)

Take a trip to Knoxville right now, the the football program hasn’t had this much energy surrounding it since the Phillip Fulmer heydays. Seriously, the last time Tennessee fans were this sure and this excited about their future was going into Peyton Manning’s sophomore season, when they knew that had quite a few big years ahead of them.

Butch Jones has potentially a second straight Top 5 recruiting class coming in, and the Volunteers closed out the 2014 season on a very strong note. After inserting Joshua Dobbs into the lineup at quarterback as a starter, they finished the year 4-1, including a great bowl victory and an epic comeback against South Carolina. The only loss, by the way, was a one-score loss to Missouri, the SEC East champions.

The youngest team in college football this past year has 19 starters back and a quarterback everybody is excited about. Jones’s team is finally starting to take shape as he enters his third year as head coach.

With other superstars like Jalen Hurd, Cameron Sutton, and Curt Maggitt coming back, the combination is making Tennessee the trendy pick to win the SEC East in 2015.

That’s all enough to keep the energy high in East Tennessee.
