5. Stanford Cardinal, Four Players (Three on Roster, One on Injured Reserve)

Players on New England: Cameron Fleming (OL), Tyler Gaffney (RB-IR)

Players on Seattle: Richard Sherman (CB), Doug Baldwin (WR)

Okay, so maybe ahead of Cal, Stanford stands up there when it comes to percentage of players who play a huge role in the Super Bowl. Do we really have to go into detail with Richard Sherman? Of course not.

Doug Baldwin has been the leading receiver all year for the Seahawks, so he is a pretty big deal too. Those two players alone are enough to put Stanford in the Top 5. But we are not done there.

Cameron Fleming has seen a good bit of action for the New England Patriots on the offensive line now, making that three players who are used as regulars, two crucial players, and one superstar from Stanford in the Super Bowl. Then there’s Tyler Gaffney.

Gaffney is obviously the ugly duckling and on injured reserve. But hey, that still makes four. And three are relevant.

This kind of goes to show just how far the Stanford Cardinal football program has come since Jim Harbaugh turned it around in 2007 and David Shaw carried the torch in 2011, doesn’t it? Just imagine if the Colts had won, and Andrew Luck and Colby Fleener were on this list.

Either way, the group is impressive.
