3. Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Four Players (Four on Roster)

Players on New England: Duron Harmon (DB), Devin McCourty (DB), Logan Ryan (CB), and Tim Wright (TE)

Players on Seattle: None

So this should serve as proof on its own that these metrics should never be used to judge how great a school is. Nobody in their right mind would consider Rutgers a Top 30 college football program over the past 50, 40, 20, 10, or five years, let alone a Top 5 program.

But when it comes to the Super Bowl, you can’t deny the major contributions of a group of former Scarlet Knights to the New England Patriots football team. Duron Harmon has been on the field sporadically at times throughout the season, and he is definitely useful in the secondary. Logan Ryan, meanwhile, has played an even larger role. He is a regular in the secondary and always called on to come in and make plays.

Let’s move over to the one non-secondary player, who is on the offensive side of the ball. Tim Wright may not have done anything against Indianapolis, but he does have 6 touchdowns on the year, showing that he is a great short-yardage tight end. This is another Tom Brady weapon.

Finally, we get to Devin McCourty. And kind of like Richard Sherman, there is no reason for us to have to explain why he sticks out. As a whole, this is a very reliable unit that has played a huge role in getting New England to the Super Bowl.
