This is not revisionist history. Anybody who saw Tom Brady play in college should have recognized his greatness immediately before the 2000 NFL Draft, but Lloyd Carr never gave him a fair shake.
Brady had earned the starting spot in 1997, but Carr benched him due to seniority. Then, in 1999, despite outperforming Drew Henson in practice and in games, Carr used the Freshman hype and youth excuse to split time. But every time Brady was in at quarterback in 1999, he was winning football games. And by splitting his time in the first half of the season, Carr cost himself another national championship.
Then, as the full-time starter, Brady went on a second-half tear that culminated in the Orange Bowl, leading his team to a comeback victory against Alabama with a 400-yard dominating performance. Brady was an amazing college football quarterback, and if he had gotten the fair chance he deserved, he could even be higher on this list.
