Eli Manning went to Ole Miss under more pressure than perhaps any player in college football history. His older brother had just finished up a legendary career at Tennessee, setting records left and right in the SEC, and he was following in his dad’s legendary footsteps in Oxford.

All the guy did was carry the Rebels to three straight winning seasons and their first 10-win season in decades in 2003. In fact, that’s the last 10-win season they had as well. Manning willed the Rebels into contention for the SEC West crown that year, and if Ole Miss had a defense and kicker with any clutch gene, they likely would have won the SEC Championship.

Unfortunately, Eli was all this team had, and he darn near pulled off a miracle by winning the SEC Championship. Still his legend grows in the NFL because of two lucky Super Bowls. Now, because we once again overvalue rings, we underrate his college success and overrate his NFL success.
