Going by stats alone, Russell Wilson has a strong case to be the best quarterback who won a Super Bowl to ever play college football. He put up by far the most touchdowns and had an amazing TD-INT ratio. The only thing holding him back is the competition.
Wilson played at N.C. State when the ACC was at its worst ever, and then he went to Wisconsin when the Big Ten was at its worst ever. Otherwise, he’d be No. 1 by a long shot. But let’s pause and consider.
Wilson is known as a game manager on a Super Bowl team but not a superstar quarterback like other guys. Yet his college stats suggest he might be the best ever among Super Bowl winning quarterbacks despite not winning a national championship. Does that not show you how off perceptions can be about players and how inconsistent they can be? It’s why we’ve got to stop once and for all using the rings argument.
Anyway, Wilson was a huge winner in college with or without a national title. Winning the Big Ten Championship in 2011 at Wisconsin proved that, even if the conference was down at the time.
