Cue the loudest anti-Peyton Manning screamers in the room. “He never beat Florida!!!” “He never won a national championship!!!” “The Vols won it all the year after he left!!!”

Can it. Please.

Nearly everybody on this list had a different perception about them in college vs. the NFL, and we excused all of them for not winning a national championship.

Peyton Manning was and remains the only player in football held to the championship or bust rule, so many people look at his college career with a “yeah but” mentality because he didn’t win it all. But neither did 28 of the 31 Super Bowl winning quarterbacks in NFL history.

Once that argument is debunked, his detractors will say that the Vols won it the year after he left. Well, BYU did the same when McMahon and Young left, Michigan won it all the year before Brady became the starter. What’s your point?

So now that we have got all the stupid championship and ring arguments debunked, let’s look at what Manning actually did. He set records in the toughest conference in football for career passing yards, career passing touchdowns, and wins at the time. He also won an SEC Championship in arguably the most clutch performance in the game ever by leading the Vols back down 20-10 at halftime.

And despite never beating Florida, he did turn around the series against the Vols’ other rival, Alabama, going 3-1 against the team. He also went 3-1 in bowl games, 3-0 against Georgia, and 11-1 against the SEC West.

And with 89 touchdowns and more than 11,000 passing yards in an offense that, surprisingly, was more about balance at the time, it can’t be ignored that Manning is the best college quarterback among all the Super Bowl winning quarterbacks. If you have an argument for anybody else, let me know.
