11. John Elway, Stanford Cardinal, 1979-1982

Stats: 774-of-1,246 (62.1 percent) for 9,349 Yards, 77 Touchdowns and 39 Interceptions

Record as Starter: 20-23

Super Bowl Wins-2

XXXII-1997-98 With Denver Broncos (Defeated Green Bay Packers 31-24)

XXXIII-1998-99 With Denver Broncos (Defeated Atlanta Falcons 34-19)

It’s all about wins and rings, but one of the Top 5 greatest quarterbacks of all time never went to a bowl game in college and then never won a ring until the final two years of his career. But somehow we allow those two years to define his entire legacy.

Anyway, getting back to reality, it does not matter that Elway never went to a bowl game. He had no help around him at Stanford and willed that team to bowl contention every year. His 20-23 record gets to be forgiven because of that.

Let us also remember that Elway had his team in prime position to go to a bowl game his senior year, giving the Cardinal a lead over Cal with just a few seconds left in the final game of the year. Of course, that’s when the Stanford-Cal game happen. For the football idiots who judge quarterbacks by wins and championships, I guess we have to blame Elway for the fact that the Stanford band ran on the field and blocked its own players.
