If Ben Roethlisberger had played football before late in his high school career, he would have been extremely highly recruited and likely gone somewhere else to become a Top 5 college quarterback of all time. However, he was not able to generate enough interest in time.

So all Roethlisberger did was go to Miami (Ohio) and take the RedHawks on an amazing run, winning the MAC Championship en route to a 13-1 record in 2003 to position himself to be a highly rated NFL Draft prospect.

Roethlisberger managed to throw for more than 10,800 yards and 84 touchdowns in college, hall of fame stats by any measurements. In the NFL, he has been a little bit more along the lines of a good but not elite quarterback who has benefitted from a dominant defense. In college, he was a mid-major legend.
