Super Bowls

Super Bowl XXVII, 1992-93 (Defeated Buffalo Bills 52-17)

Super Bowl XXVIII, 1993-94 (Defeated Buffalo Bills 30-13)

Jimmy Johnson’s record speaks for itself. He won at Oklahoma State in college, an impossible place to win at during that time, and he also played a huge role in the NFL in transforming the Dallas Cowboys into the glamorous, dominant team.

But Johnson’s true success was the show he put on with the Miami Hurricanes. Although Howard Schnellenberger had built that program over the course of five years, Johnson created the culture of The U. He encouraged his players to dance, show-off, and possibly be willing to fight if needed, he ran up the score, embarrassed the opponent for fun, and made the Miami program pure entertainment.

Oh, and with a 52-9 record and a national championship, it’s not like he didn’t do his job either. From an X’s and O’s standpoint, Johnson built Miami for the long term by bringing in his 4-3 defense to maximize his athletes on the field.

Jimmy Johnson is a legendary coach who won big at both levels and built programs at both levels. It was hard not to put him higher on this list. But the next two guys can’t be ignored.
