7. Texas Longhorns

Given the hold-your-nose skepticism of Charlie Strong going into his second year with the Texas Longhorns with the facts that he struggled to recruit for the early part of last season, he struggled to win through the middle of last season, and he had a terrible bowl loss at the end of last season, having a Top 10 class coming back to Texas is a huge relief.

The Longhorns currently have the No. 9 ranked class on Rivals, which still is not great by Texas standards, but they may not be done. It is pretty clear that this is going to be a very good class already as Strong slowly builds the program back up, and he is now possibly leading for 5-star running back Soso Jamabo. Doing that would push Texas probably into the Top 5, but the foundation of the class is solid enough that the Longhorns, even at No. 9, are unlikely to fall out of the Top 10.

Going 6-7 Strong’s first year was actually remarkable given the suspensions, dismissals, and injuries that riddled the program, and fans were just waiting to see how he could recruit. He has been closing very strong recently, and the pickups over the weekend of two 4-star cornerbacks only helped him out. Fans in Austin may be excited after all, and knowing that he can add to his strong finish this week, they have a lot to be happy about.
